Change has considerable psychological impact on the human mind. To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse. To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better. To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better. Obviously, then, one’s character and frame of mind determine how readily he brings about change and how he reacts to change that is imposed on him. King Whitney Jr.
While scanning the Internet this evening I found this article on change. Of course, I had to find out who King Whitney Jr. was. That was not easy. I finally found that he was President of Personnel Laboratory Inc. in 1967 and said this in a speech in a sales meeting quoted by the Wall Street Journal.
What struck me most was at the present time of uncertainty many people's lives are going to be changed. Some will be changed for the better - even if they have to work harder, face losing jobs or don't have the money that they used to. They will be the ones that have hope or the ones that like challenges.
It is to the ones that don't have hope - that feel like the whole world has fallen apart, the ones who are filled with fear - it is to them, especially, that we must be the beacon of light. Christ tells us that we are the light of the world. He is our hope. We are to share that knowledge with others.
Matthew 5: 14-16
"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
I encourage you today to shine for others. Help them. Encourage them. Love them.

great message.
I confess, I don't like change. Unless of course it's my idea!
My great comfort in a changing world is that God is the Unchanging One. I can know His character through the Bible, and know Him through His touch on my life and those around me. His promises don't change either, so I can put my hope in Him to always love me and never leave me.
When we can say that, the change is put in perspective. God is bigger, and He can lead us even in changing times.
Joanna,
Totally agree - God is in control. In all times of change we can rest in His unchanging.

This certainly makes me think of the families who just recently lost their mother, wife or daughter to a terrible car accident. These families are faced with sudden and deep sadness...change that I am sure they did not prepare for. My heart goes out to them.
Change is always happening. However, we serve a God who does not change and knows the paths we must take. While we are doubting and wondering how things will work out, He waits with outstretched arms to lead us into the way He wants us to go.
Great post, Jan. God is in control and although we may not like the change we can find peace in the fact that God is sovereign.
